Autism symptoms - check them

In spite of the fact that autism cases differ greatly, there are some core symptoms that can be pointed out. There are problems in the following spheres:

  1. Social interaction
  2. Any kind of communication (verbal, nonverbal)
  3. Limited activities and interests

The symptoms are observed within each of these issues. Let us regard them closely. It can help in autism treatment.

First group of autism symptoms

The first group of autism symptoms deals with relationships and problems in establishing them.

  • Such patients find it hard to develop communication skills of any kind, be it verbal skills or nonverbal signs of disposition that are expressed usually through posture, expressions of the face, eye contact.
  • They can’t make friends with peers.
  • Being closed for all, they are not interested in sharing enjoyment, achievements and interests with anybody.
  • Autistic patients are unable to understand what other people feel.


Second group of autism symptoms

The second group of autism symptoms refers to methods of communication that is always problematic for such patients. The symptoms here comprise the following ones:

  • Children with autism learn to speak with delay. Up to 40% autism patients do not speak at all.
  • Inability to start a talk and continue it.
  • Multiple repetitions of the phrase that they heard before.
  • It is hard to understand the views of other people for such patients. They do not have sense of humor and look for the meaning in word-by-word text. When meaning is hidden and is just implied autist is not able to grasp the point.


The third group of autism symptoms

The third group of autism symptoms refers to the way persons with autism see the world. Their limited vision is expressed in actions:

  • Being concentrated on details, autists are unable to perceive something as a whole. Kids can be focused on some part of the toy, for instance.
  • They are preoccupied with something and are fully submerged into the topic.
  • They like similar routine actions and repeat the same route or actions from day to day.
  • One of the evident symptoms includes stereotyped behavior, when patients rocks the body, for example.

autism symptomsParents are usually the first to see that something is wrong in behavior of a child. It happens as a rule until the child turns 3 years of age. It is hard to identify the symptoms in the young age. Parents are worried because such babies do not like to be held, have little interest in games and start speaking late.

During the teen years the alterations in the behavioral patterns are observed, but such children still lag behind the peers.

Only 33% of all patients are able to reach partial independence in adulthood. Adults with autism need assistance, especially when the patient can’t speak.

Among other symptoms the following ones can be pointed out:

  • Unusual sensations (touch can be painful, while deep pressure can calm person down)
  • Unusual preoccupations, certain strong food likes and dislikes
  • Problems with sleep (observed in 40-70% patients with autism).
